Egypt’s National Council for Women has reviewed the results of its “Start and Improve Your Business” program, which supports entrepreneurship and economic empowerment for women and young people.

The initiative was delivered in partnership with the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency, Banque Misr and the International Labour Organization. It included 30 training courses held in April and May, covering service, industrial, commercial, professional and livestock-related businesses.

According to officials at the event, the program’s first phase produced 603 business plans and led to the launch of 381 projects, while 225 projects remain under development. It also contributed to around 1,550 jobs, with women representing 73% of participating projects.

The program’s organisers said the training was designed to move participants from learning to launching viable businesses. Banque Misr said the business plans helped simplify the assessment of financing applications by clarifying how funds would be used and how projects could repay them.

The partners will continue monitoring the projects for several months to measure their impact and track jobs and business outcomes. The event also highlighted plans to expand related programs, including “Improve Your Business” and “Expand Your Business,” to help entrepreneurs develop their operations and reach new markets.

Nineteen trainers were recognised after receiving accreditation to support the continued delivery of entrepreneurship programs.
