Egypt Plans African Investment Entity and Seeks Expanded BADEA Support

Egypt plans to establish a dedicated investment entity to coordinate the country’s investments in Africa and is seeking expanded support from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said.

The proposed entity would bring together government bodies, banks and private companies, supported by a database of priority investment opportunities across African markets. The initiative is also expected to include a funding mechanism for studying and implementing infrastructure projects, along with the Egyptian Agency for Guaranteeing Exports and Investment to help reduce investment risks.

Speaking during meetings with BADEA Chairman Fahd Al-Dosari on August 16, Abdelatty called for stronger financing and risk-sharing tools to support Egyptian companies operating in Africa. He highlighted export, import and supply chain financing, as well as technical support and capacity-building programmes.

The discussions took place under the latest BRIDGE dialogue sessions, which connect Egypt’s private sector with the foreign ministry and development partners. BADEA representatives presented financing tools available for private-sector projects in Africa, while Egypt’s economic sector outlined the Hafez platform for financial and technical support.

The ministry said promotional roadshows for Hafez had attracted 219 companies from sectors including agriculture, logistics, tourism, textiles, engineering and information technology. Abdelatty also invited BADEA to the Africa Business Forum in New Alamein in October 2026.
