Egypt’s planning, supply and industry ministers called for a stronger focus on production, value creation and private-sector growth during a ministerial session at the fourth annual Egyptian Entrepreneurship Sector Report Summit, SDR 2026.
Held in El Gouna from September 10 to 12, the summit brought together government officials, investors, entrepreneurs and ecosystem experts to discuss capital, innovation and the future of Egypt’s startup market.
Planning Minister Ahmed Rostom said positive growth is only a starting point, with the next phase requiring greater attention to productive and manufacturing sectors. He also identified services and information technology as areas with long-term potential.
Supply Minister Sherif Farouk highlighted the importance of diversified supply sources and stronger domestic production. According to the announcement, local output increased from around 3.2 million tons to 5 million tons annually.
Industry Minister Khaled Hashem said Egypt must build on infrastructure, talent and its growing entrepreneurship ecosystem to create sustainable development, jobs and higher productivity.
The summit coincided with the release of Entlaq’s 2026 report on Egypt’s startup ecosystem. The report estimated total startup funding at $614M in 2025, including equity and debt, up 51% from the previous year. Debt accounted for about 20% of total funding, while equity financing reached $304M across 69 deals, according to the report.
