Vodafone Business has signed two agreements aimed at strengthening Egypt’s local data and computing infrastructure, including the country’s first sovereign AI data center.
The first agreement establishes Africa Data Centers Egypt (ADC Egypt), which plans to build what the companies describe as Egypt’s largest data center. The facility is expected to reach up to 200 MW of capacity, beginning with 20 MW within its first three years. Its initial phase carries an expected investment of $200M, potentially rising to $1B at full capacity. The project is expected to create 200 direct jobs and 2,000 indirect jobs.
Under the second agreement, Vodafone Business and Cassava Technologies will develop Egypt’s first sovereign AI data center, powered by NVIDIA technology. The facility will also provide local GPU-as-a-Service, giving businesses access to computing capacity for processing data and developing AI models while keeping sensitive information within Egypt.
Vodafone Business, ElSewedy Electric and Cassava Technologies formalized the agreements at a signing ceremony attended by Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Eng. Raafat Hindi. The projects are intended to support data protection, regulatory compliance and the growth of Egypt’s digital economy.
According to the announcement, ADC Egypt’s first 20 MW phase is expected within three years, marking the first step toward the project’s longer-term capacity target.
