Oman’s state-backed clean energy platform O-Green plans to build more than 200MW of AI-ready data centre capacity across Oman, Spain and other international markets by 2028, according to a company announcement.
The strategy builds on O-Green’s renewable energy portfolio, which exceeds 11GW across 12 countries and includes solar, wind and battery energy storage projects. The company aims to combine renewable generation, storage, land and infrastructure into a single clean-power and compute offering.
O-Green’s flagship project in Oman is a 2.7GW continuous renewable energy development spanning Duqm and Mahout. Combining solar, wind and battery storage, the project is expected to deliver around 770MW of firm renewable power. Data centres and other advanced computing applications are among the energy-intensive industries it could support.
The announcement coincided with the inaugural founding meeting of Oman’s Green Artificial Intelligence Alliance in Muscat. The alliance, formed by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and the Authority for Public Services Regulation, will promote renewable-powered AI and high-performance computing, research into net-zero computing and national capacity building in sustainable AI.
