Berytech has introduced the first cohort of its Research to Business (R2B) Programme, bringing together 14 research-based projects from across the Mediterranean to help move promising technologies closer to market.
The programme is an initiative of the Union for the Mediterranean and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation, led by Berytech in partnership with ANIMA Investment Network and the University of Barcelona.
The cohort includes projects from Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon, Morocco, Jordan, Algeria and Tunisia. Their work covers areas including smart agriculture, healthcare, water management, sustainable construction, food security and waste valorisation.
Among the projects are AgriMet-BigData, which uses weather modelling and deep learning to support farmers; VITAL-Guard, an AI-based system for identifying hospital patients at risk of deterioration; and Smart Cube, which combines desalination, solar energy and IoT irrigation for water-scarce areas.
Other projects focus on precision oncology, epilepsy monitoring, breast lesion detection, biological crop protection, sustainable building materials and agricultural biorefineries.
According to Berytech, R2B will provide tailored mentoring and expert support in market positioning, business models, intellectual property, commercialization and investment readiness. Participants will also connect with industry, investors and innovation ecosystems through the programme’s Cross-Med Innovation Community.
