Capital University has introduced Talaqi, a platform designed to connect companies with university researchers and turn research outputs into practical solutions, according to Noha Nabil, the university president’s adviser for innovation and entrepreneurship.
The platform was developed after several months of research and planning to create a more structured channel between industry and academia. Companies can use Talaqi to register operational challenges and connect with specialists who can help address them.
Talaqi includes 30 applied tracks covering areas such as water management, energy, artificial intelligence, medical consulting, and the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. The platform can also bring together multidisciplinary teams. A hospital management challenge, for example, could involve experts in hospital administration, business, and computing.
The model works in both directions. Companies can browse the university’s applied research and registered patents, then submit investment proposals for relevant technologies. Potential forms of cooperation include supplying materials, funding later development stages, signing licensing or usage agreements, or partnering with a startup to commercialise an innovation.
According to the announcement, Talaqi also provides contractual frameworks for relationships involving companies, factories, investors and researchers. A project can begin by solving one organisation’s problem and later develop into a new company or institution offering the solution more broadly.
