Egypt is advancing a digital transformation agenda centered on artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, data centers and 5G, following a meeting between President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Communications and Information Technology Minister Raafat Hendi, and military signals leadership.
According to the announcement, Egypt aims to reach $8B in digital exports by 2028, while outsourcing services are projected to generate $12B by 2029. The country also plans to expand its electronics design sector to 120 companies by 2030.
Sisi directed officials to accelerate investment in hyperscale data centers, cloud computing and nationwide 5G deployment. The government is also progressing with Karnak, a national AI program intended to support digital sovereignty and develop generative AI models in Arabic.
The agenda includes expanding the Unified Government Services Card and integrating databases with the Ministry of Supply to simplify access to public services.
Officials also reviewed measures under a joint NTRA-SCMR decree issued on September 17. The rules ban social media accounts for children under 13 and require Safe Mode settings for users aged 13 to 15.
The meeting further covered the Digilians initiative, which is run with the Egyptian Military Academy and focuses on preparing young people for in-demand technology roles. Sisi called for neutral and transparent candidate selection.
