Egyptian universities are developing strategies to expand the use of artificial intelligence in education, research and innovation, according to Adel Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
In televised remarks, Abdel Ghaffar said the ministry is prioritising computer science and AI programs across higher education tracks. More than 100 faculties and institutes nationwide currently offer academic programs in these fields, he said.
The strategy also includes practical training and student skills development through partnerships with companies and international institutions. Programs run with the United Nations Development Programme and Mohammed bin Rashid Foundation are intended to help students meet labour-market requirements and adapt to the fast-changing technology sector.
Training will remain a key priority during the new academic year, with universities expected to make greater use of development centres and skills-focused programs, according to the ministry spokesperson.
Egypt’s higher education system is set to welcome more than four million students across 131 universities and 185 institutes at the start of the academic year. Universities have also used the summer period to upgrade facilities, laboratories and other infrastructure ahead of the return to classes.
