A report has highlighted the professional and entrepreneurial journey of three generations of women from Bahrain’s Kaflani family, one of the region’s oldest business groups, and the changing role of women in the kingdom’s Indian business community.
Published in the August 2026 issue of Salam Bahrain and written by Mira Ravi, the report traces the family’s transition from traditional household roles to business leadership. It also examines how Bahrain’s education and entrepreneurship environment has supported women’s economic participation, according to the report.
Setabai Kaflani, who was born in Bahrain, described how women of her generation prioritised family responsibilities while helping rebuild and preserve the family’s foundations. Her daughter, Harsha Kaflani, said her upbringing in Bahrain’s multicultural environment encouraged flexibility, openness and respect for different perspectives.
The next generation has taken a more direct role in business. Sisters Kanchan Kaflani, Komal Kaflani and Dipali Kaflani currently run three independent businesses in the UAE. They said their approach to entrepreneurship was shaped by the values, discipline and examples established by the women in their family.
The report also features the Devji family, including Ila, Devika and Madhuri, and their efforts to challenge traditional expectations while building new paths in business and society.
