Martiros Mina, a 10-year-old Egyptian fourth-grader, has developed a robot tour guide designed in the likeness of King Tutankhamun to introduce visitors to Egyptian antiquities at the Egyptian Museum.
Mina began building robots at the age of five and has since competed in programming and robotics competitions in Egypt and abroad. This year, he won a gold medal in an international Python programming competition organised by China. According to Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the result placed him among the top 2% of participants worldwide.
The young programmer was recently honoured by Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Raafat Hendy, who also reviewed his projects. Hendy directed the ministry to admit Mina to the Robotics and Embedded Systems track of the Digital Egypt Cubs Initiative, despite his being below the programme’s minimum age.
The ministry also provided Mina with a laptop and robotics kits. Launched during the 2022/23 academic year, the initiative offers training in robotics, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, web development and digital arts.
By May 2026, the ministry said its Digital Egypt Marvels and Cubs initiatives had trained approximately 240,000 pupils across Egypt.
