Sohag University Partners with 12 Creativa Graduates to Bolster Egypt’s Regional Tech Hub

Sohag University is increasing its commitment to Egypt’s local tech ecosystem by formalizing support for 12 startups emerging from the Creativa Hub Sohag. Dr. Hassan Al-Nuamani, President of the University, met with the founders to outline collaboration pathways, aiming to provide the ventures with technical and scientific resources to accelerate their growth and market impact. The initiative aligns with a broader national strategy to empower young entrepreneurs and strengthen regional innovation centers.

Bridging Academia and Entrepreneurship

The meeting, held at the Creativa Hub Sohag on the university’s new campus, focused on creating a direct support line between the academic institution and the early-stage companies. Dr. Hassan Al-Nuamani emphasized the university’s role in nurturing talent and supporting startups that can compete effectively in the job market.

“These successful models from the ‘Creativa’ programs represent real success stories that confirm the importance of investing in youth,” stated Dr. Al-Nuamani. He framed the university’s support as a key part of its vision to produce a generation capable of creating innovative job opportunities beyond traditional career paths, contributing to Egypt’s sustainable economic and social development.

The discussion involved key ecosystem players, including Hasnaa Fathy and Bilal Yahya from the corporate venture capital firm EdVentures, and Mahmoud Qassem, representing the Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC) at the hub.

A Diverse Cohort Tackling Key Sectors

The 12 participating startups operate across several strategic fields critical to the region. According to Eng. Nehal Maghribi, Director of the University’s Career Qualification Unit, the companies are active in healthcare, assistive devices for people with disabilities, modern agriculture, and educational technology.

Other areas of focus include digital manufacturing, programming, and engineering services. The meeting explored how Sohag University can act as an “house of expertise,” offering specialized knowledge to help these projects refine their products, scale their operations, and improve their chances of long-term success.

Developing the Talent Pipeline

Alongside supporting existing startups, the university is actively cultivating the next wave of entrepreneurs. Dr. Al-Nuamani also inspected an ongoing entrepreneurship training program for 50 students, run in partnership with EdVentures and Right Solutions.

Eng. Maghribi noted that the five-day training was designed to help students generate innovative technological ideas to serve the local community. The university president also reviewed the Digital Fabrication Lab, where he examined six hardware prototypes developed by student innovators, signaling a hands-on approach to building a complete innovation pipeline from idea to market.

Creativa Innovation Hubs are a nationwide initiative by Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), implemented through the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA). The hubs are established in universities across various governorates to foster creativity, support technological innovation, and provide training, co-working spaces, and fabrication labs for students, freelancers, and aspiring entrepreneurs.
