The UAE’s Ministry of Economy and Tourism recently organized a high-level virtual roundtable to map out new strategies for boosting the country’s startup ecosystem. The event, titled “Enhancing the Growth of Startups and Enabling the Entrepreneurship Ecosystem,” brought together key figures from government bodies and major private sector companies to address opportunities and challenges for emerging businesses, with a particular focus on supporting women-led enterprises.

A Unified Front for Entrepreneurship
The roundtable was chaired by Badria Al Maidoor, Assistant Undersecretary for the Support Services Sector at the Ministry of Economy and Tourism. She emphasized the UAE’s vision of positioning the SME and entrepreneurship sector as a primary engine for a future economy built on knowledge and innovation.
“This direction reflects the state’s firm commitment to enhancing the sustainability of the national economy, supporting its diversity, and stimulating its sustainable growth paths,” Al Maidoor stated.
She highlighted the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to develop a progressive legislative framework, maintain open communication with female founders, and work with partners to find practical solutions to the hurdles they face. This includes providing integrated support services such as financial and administrative facilities, workshops, and technical advisory services through the National Program for Small and Medium Enterprises.
Unlocking Capital and Access
Access to funding remains a critical factor for startup success. The Emirates Development Bank (EDB) presented its available financing tools and capital access mechanisms designed to streamline the funding process for new companies.
Separately, Emirates NBD’s measures to support female entrepreneurs were discussed, including waivers on loan deferral fees, international shipping services for business cards, and a 30% discount on fees for letters of credit and guarantees. The Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center (Sheraa) also showcased its key initiatives and programs designed to foster innovation and accelerate startup growth.
Digital and Logistical Backbones for Scaling
As startups look to scale, robust digital and logistical infrastructure is essential. Telecoms giant e& detailed the advanced digital solutions it offers to support startups, focusing on strengthening digital infrastructure and enabling market services to fast-track company growth.
On the logistics front, DHL presented its regional and global solutions, alongside training programs aimed at preparing startups for expansion into foreign markets.
Data-Driven Strategies for Expansion
The discussion also covered modern growth methodologies. Maxbyte offered insights on building data-driven growth systems, focusing on helping startups transition from the prototype stage to full-scale expansion by implementing strategies based on data analysis.
