The Women in Science Forum – Egypt 2026 has opened at Egypt’s National Research Centre, bringing together scientists, academics and experts from Egypt and 26 countries.
Running from September 8 to 10, the forum is focused on strengthening science-based innovation and entrepreneurship. Its sessions cover the role of science in policymaking and governance, as well as medical and biological sciences, agriculture, materials and energy, climate change, economics, political science and archaeology.
Amal Ammar, president of Egypt’s National Council for Women, said the forum highlights the need to expand women’s participation across research, innovation, technology and knowledge-based entrepreneurship. She also called for stronger support to help women move from research and ideas to intellectual property, startups and investment.
The council said it supports women in science through its research, technology and cybersecurity committee, as well as its “Nile Scientists” series, which highlights Egyptian women researchers.
The forum also brings together public research institutions, the private sector and international partners. Speakers included representatives of the European Union delegation to Egypt and Sanofi, alongside leaders from the National Research Centre and Egypt’s research institutions.
The three-day event will conclude with recommendations aimed at increasing women’s participation in innovation and supporting the next generation of female researchers.
