The Zayed Sustainability Prize, the UAE’s flagship award for global impact solutions, has closed its 2027 submission cycle after receiving an unprecedented 10,233 entries from 177 countries. Now in its 18th year, the prize continues to attract a growing number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), nonprofits, and high schools focused on solving critical global challenges.

Quick Facts

  • Record 10,233 entries from 177 countries.
  • 32% year-on-year increase in submissions.
  • Over 411 million lives impacted to date.

A Surge in Global Innovation

This year’s submission volume marks a significant 32% increase from the previous cycle, signaling a growing global appetite for locally-driven, scalable solutions. The strongest participation came from developing and emerging economies, with Bangladesh, Brazil, China, and Kenya leading the charge alongside a notable number of entries from the UAE itself.

The Climate Action category attracted the most attention with 2,505 submissions, followed closely by Food (2,261) and Health (1,807).

H.E. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Director-General of the Zayed Sustainability Prize, commented on the milestone. “This historic level of participation reflects the growing global demand for practical solutions that build resilience, strengthen essential systems and deliver lasting impact,” he stated. “This year’s applicants have shown how AI, adaptability, innovation and local leadership can come together to address urgent challenges in communities where access, affordability and reliability remain limited.”

An analysis of the entries reveals a clear focus on resilience and community-centric solutions. In Health, applicants are leveraging AI-powered diagnostics and low-cost medical devices to expand access in underserved regions. The Food category saw a strong emphasis on farmer support services and technologies aimed at improving food processing and value chains.

Energy solutions centered on efficiency, decentralised renewable energy, and smart grids, while Water submissions tackled groundwater access, wastewater treatment, and conservation. The popular Climate Action category featured a high concentration of projects focused on adaptation, community resilience, and circular economy models.

Student-led projects in the Global High Schools category increasingly addressed interconnected challenges, combining renewable energy, water filtration, and waste management to tackle local issues systemically.

The Road to the 2027 Awards

With submissions now closed, the prize enters an intensive evaluation phase. An independent body will conduct a due diligence review before a Selection Committee of international experts shortlists the finalists. The final winners will be chosen by the Jury in September 2026.

The winners will be announced at the Zayed Sustainability Prize Awards Ceremony on January 12, 2027. Winners in the five organisational categories—Health, Food, Energy, Water, and Climate Action—will each receive US $1 million. The six winning high schools, representing different global regions, will each be awarded US $150,000 to advance their projects.
