Algeria’s national student team has demonstrated significant strength in artificial intelligence, securing two gold and two silver medals at this year’s African Olympiad on Artificial Intelligence (AOAI) held in Tunisia. The achievement underscores a growing focus on developing young tech talent within the North African nation, drawing praise from the country’s top education officials.

Spotlighting Algeria’s Top Young Minds
The competition, which ran from April 11-12, brought together some of the brightest young minds from the continent. Following the team’s strong performance, Minister of National Education, Mr. Mohammed Seghir Sadaoui, formally honored the winning students.
The celebrated laureates include Bouabdallah Rostom Mohamed Kamel, Khelifi Mohamed Alaeddine, and Nesrine Maazouz from the Mohand-Mokhbi Mathematics High School in Algiers, along with Bouricha Sofiane from the Oudni Omar High School in Draâ El Mizan, Tizi Ouzou.
A Reflection of National Strategy
In a statement, Minister Sadaoui framed the victory as a direct result of a national push to support exceptional students in science and technology, a policy championed by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
“These honorable results clearly reflect the sustained interest of the State… in national elites, particularly brilliant students excelling in scientific and technological fields,” Mr. Sadaoui stated. He described the focus as part of a “strategic vision aimed at investing in human capital as a fundamental lever for achieving sustainable development.”
The Minister added that the achievement is “proof of the dynamism of the educational system and its ability to train a promising scientific elite capable of worthily representing Algeria on the international stage.”

The Ministry of National Education reiterated its commitment to fostering an environment where talent can be identified and developed. Mr. Sadaoui acknowledged the critical contributions of teachers, supervisors, and the support from parents in achieving these results.
