Dubai’s largest public parking operator, Parkin, has signed a multi-year agreement with Emaar Mall Management to introduce its AI-driven parking enforcement services at some of the city’s most prominent retail locations. The deal will see Parkin’s technology rolled out across Dubai Mall, Dubai Hills Mall, and Marina Mall.
Quick Facts
- Parkin and Emaar sign multi-year enforcement agreement.
- AI tech to monitor parking at three major malls.
- Focus on People of Determination (PoD) parking access.
How The AI-Powered System Works
The partnership will initially focus on safeguarding parking bays designated for People of Determination (PoD), ensuring they are used correctly. Parkin will integrate its Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) platform with Emaar’s existing infrastructure at the three malls.
When a vehicle enters a PoD-designated spot, Parkin’s AI system will automatically scan the license plate to confirm if a valid PoD permit is associated with it. If no permit is detected, the system flags the potential violation to an inspector at Parkin’s command center for review. After verification, a penalty notice may be issued.
To prevent penalizing genuine mistakes, the system will include a short grace period, allowing drivers to move their vehicles if they have parked in a PoD bay by accident. In addition to the camera-based technology, Parkin will also conduct regular field inspections to ensure compliance.
A Strategic Push Beyond Public Parking
This agreement marks a significant step in Parkin’s strategy to expand its services beyond public parking facilities into high-traffic private commercial spaces. By partnering with a major developer like Emaar, Parkin is leveraging its enforcement technology and mobility solutions for new revenue streams.
Eng. Mohamed Abdulla Al Ali, CEO of Parkin, commented on the deal: “This partnership will ensure that People of Determination have unobstructed access to parking spaces designed for them, a matter of both regulatory compliance and genuine community benefit. By combining our sophisticated AI-driven ANPR technology with dedicated field inspections, we aim to deliver a comprehensive and effective enforcement model.”
He added, “This agreement reflects our strategy to diversify Parkin’s service offering by leveraging our core strengths in technology, enforcement and mobility solutions to create value-added partnerships beyond our traditional public parking operations.”
Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Executive Director at Emaar Properties, noted the customer experience benefits. “This partnership reflects our ongoing commitment to enhancing the customer experience across our destinations while ensuring accessibility for all. By working with Parkin, we are reinforcing the importance of dedicated parking for People of Determination and supporting a more efficient and considerate use of our facilities.”
