Oman has formally established the Green Artificial Intelligence Alliance, a national initiative focused on reducing the environmental impact of AI and high-performance computing as the country expands its digital economy.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology held the alliance’s inaugural meeting with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, the Authority for Public Services Regulation, government entities and private-sector representatives.
The alliance will bring together government, businesses, academic and research institutions, and investors to develop a national ecosystem for sustainable AI. Participants approved its founding document, formed a technical committee and reviewed its 2026 work plan.
Key priorities include using renewable and low-emission energy to power AI systems, researching net-zero computing, building national expertise and encouraging companies to adopt greener technologies.
The initiative will also examine energy-efficient AI models and processors, green data centers, advanced cooling, heat and water reuse, and clean energy sources including solar, wind, storage and hydrogen. It is expected to support green innovation, explore incentives and attract local and international partnerships.
First announced at COMEX 2025, the alliance aligns with Oman Vision 2040 and plans to expand its membership in Oman and internationally.
