Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched an updated AI strategy targeting more than AED 300 million ($82M) in additional annual value.

The authority plans to move 50% of its operations and services to agentic AI, which can complete tasks independently, within two and a half years. The strategy covers 41 areas and includes plans for 40 AI products and four foundational projects. RTA has identified more than 180 use cases, with 11 products already live.

According to the announcement, the targets include reducing congestion by 3% to 5%, cutting complaint and case processing times by up to 30%, and reducing accidents involving newly licensed drivers by up to 20%. The congestion reduction could save more than five million driving hours annually.

RTA’s chatbot, Mahboub, is being upgraded to complete transactions through the RTA app, website and WhatsApp. It currently supports five vehicle licensing services and around 100 information services, with the authority aiming for the chatbot to handle 50% of services by the end of 2027.

Other projects include an AI system for electronic No Objection Certificates, an automated vehicle licensing document auditor and an AI bus network planner. RTA also said more than 90% of employees with access use Microsoft Copilot, saving 10% of working time.
