The Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development has launched new initiatives in international arbitration, entrepreneurship and angel investment during the first year of its B57+ initiative, according to Secretary-General Youssef Hassan Khalawi.
Speaking on the sidelines of the B57+ Business Leaders Summit in Istanbul, Khalawi said the initiative also developed a digital platform for bilateral, regional and international agreements relevant to Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries. The platform is ready for launch, according to the announcement.
Among the new programs is OIC Arbitration Week, which brought together international legal and arbitration institutions. The chamber also agreed to develop a professional certification for legal arbitrators in Islamic finance, in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
In entrepreneurship, B57+ is establishing a formal angel investor network to connect founders with investors. The initiative is also working on direct links between entrepreneurs, smaller investors and senior business leaders, alongside future capacity-building programs.
The chamber is preparing to launch a European chapter of B57+, with Brussels selected as its base for the expansion. Khalawi said the chapter is expected to hold its first European meetings in Brussels on December 5 and 6, extending the initiative’s business network between OIC markets and European partners.
