Bosta CEO Says Egyptian Startup Listings Could Unlock a New Investment Cycle

Mohamed Ezzat, founder and CEO of Egyptian logistics company Bosta, said listing startups on the Egyptian Exchange could do more than provide lower-cost funding. It could create a broader cycle in which investors exit successful companies and reinvest their returns in new startups.

Speaking at the Money Made Simple conference in Alexandria, Ezzat said Egypt needs to give greater attention to the contribution of startups and technology companies to economic growth. He pointed to India, where he said startups contributed to a 15% increase in GDP between 2016 and 2025.

According to Ezzat, around 90% of the $2B invested in Egyptian startups has come from foreign investors. These investors need clear exit opportunities, he said, and public listings could provide a path to liquidity and future reinvestment.

Ezzat added that average daily trading value on Egypt’s stock market has increased from about EGP 3.5B last year to roughly EGP 10B currently. He said stronger liquidity could encourage more startups and investors to consider listings.

He also called for regulators and relevant government bodies to develop ways to accommodate high-growth companies without disrupting market rules. Startup valuations, he said, should reflect their growth rates rather than rely on the same measures used for slower-growing traditional companies.
