Egypt plans to activate the TradeTech Sandbox soon to help startups develop technology and artificial intelligence solutions for the trade sector, Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid said.
Speaking virtually during a high-level session at the fourth 2026 SDR Summit, organised by Entalak, Farid described the sandbox as an experimental regulatory environment for innovative trade technologies. According to the announcement, it will allow entrepreneurs to use foreign trade data to identify export opportunities, track international trade trends and access more detailed information about overseas markets.
The ministry is also preparing amendments to the executive regulations of Companies Law No. 159 of 1981. The proposed changes would establish a framework for shareholder agreements, regulate convertible notes and create a registry for such contracts. They would also introduce a system for evaluating capital increases through specialised companies.
Farid said Egypt has also introduced reforms covering startup valuation, crowdfunding and venture capital funds, alongside licences for companies offering new financing models. He added that startup funding should support businesses from the idea stage through early traction, sales and later expansion, including growth beyond Egypt when needed.
The minister said the government views startup failures as part of the risk-taking required to build a stronger entrepreneurship ecosystem, while continuing to support new ideas and innovative business models.
