Oman is taking a proactive approach to building its future talent pipeline with the launch of the fourth edition of the “Future Pioneers” bootcamp. The initiative, organized by the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Riyada) in partnership with the Ministry of Education, is designed to instill an entrepreneurial mindset in students from grades seven through nine across the Sultanate.
Quick Facts
- Targets students in grades seven, eight, and nine
- Bootcamps held across multiple Omani governorates
- Focuses on idea generation, business modeling, and pitching
A Hands-On Approach to Youth Entrepreneurship
The “Future Pioneers” program moves beyond traditional classroom learning by offering an immersive, hands-on experience. The curriculum is built around four key pillars: identifying real-world problems, developing innovative ideas into business models, creating functional prototypes, and mastering presentation and communication skills.
Through a series of practical workshops and interactive training sessions, participants learn the fundamentals of establishing a startup. The program connects students with experienced trainers from organizations like the Programming Academy, providing them with the tools to transform their initial concepts into viable project proposals and feasibility studies.
Building a Nationwide Talent Pipeline
The initiative is being rolled out across several governorates in Oman during the summer break. The camp in South Sharqiyah engaged 70 students, while the Muscat edition, held at Oman Arab Bank, attracted 100 participants. This follows a successful bootcamp recently concluded in the Musandam governorate.
“The camp aims to develop entrepreneurial and innovative thinking among students, introduce them to the basics of establishing startups, and enable them to turn their ideas into applicable projects,” said Samira bint Salloum Al-Tali’i, Head of the Entrepreneurship Department at the Ministry of Education’s Career Guidance and Student Counseling Center.
From Classroom Concepts to Pitch-Ready Startups
The bootcamp culminates in a final pitch session where student teams present their startup ideas to evaluation committees. This final stage gives participants a platform to apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the program, from market analysis to delivering a compelling investment pitch.
By concluding the program with a competition to award the best student-led startups, organizers aim to provide a realistic and motivating introduction to the world of entrepreneurship, equipping the next generation with the confidence and skills to contribute to Oman’s economic future.
