Saudi Sarat Ventures Targets $100M for 15 to 20 Biotech Startups

Saudi-based Sarat Ventures has launched a biotechnology investment fund targeting $100 million across 15 to 20 companies, according to the announcement.

The fund will focus on startups at Series A or later that have started commercial and manufacturing operations and generate annual revenues of up to around $2 million. Founder Dr. Huda Al Fardous said the strategy is designed to improve exit prospects while reducing exposure to the risks of earlier-stage investing.

Sarat Ventures also aims to help international biotech companies enter the Saudi market and support local founders in developing products and reaching overseas markets. The firm has partnerships with entities in the US and China, while the fund is registered in London to support international expansion and attract foreign investment.

The fund has a five-year investment period, after which Sarat Ventures plans to exit its investments and launch a second five-year cycle at a target size approximately five times larger, if the first phase performs well.

Al Fardous expects Saudi Arabia’s biotechnology market to reach around $150 billion by 2030, growing at an annual rate of approximately 13.5%.
