Up to three student teams from each participating university and institute have advanced to the national stage of the first edition of Egypt’s “We Reuse, Innovate and Build” competition for university waste management.
The competition is organised by the Innovators and Geniuses Welfare Fund in partnership with the Leadership Development Institute in Helwan. The teams were selected after a month of internal competitions and hackathons, where students developed ideas and prototypes in multidisciplinary groups.
The initiative aims to turn waste management challenges on university campuses into opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship. Projects will compete across four tracks: smart technologies for monitoring and sorting waste, engineering innovation and recycling, creative design and community awareness, and green business models and feasibility studies.
According to the announcement, the fund will train the qualifying teams and support the development of their prototypes. Selected projects may also receive incubation, technical assistance and entrepreneurship support as they work toward becoming deployable solutions, ventures or startups.
The next stage will focus on refining the teams’ prototypes ahead of the national competition and final awards. Organisers said the competition is designed to connect student projects with environmental needs, sustainability and the green economy.
