Strategic Talks Signal Shift to Digital Collaboration
In a recent meeting in Shanghai, senior officials from Dubai Chambers and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) outlined plans to deepen economic ties. The talks between Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, President and CEO of Dubai Chambers, and Yang Dongsheng, Vice Chairman of CCPIT Shanghai, moved beyond traditional trade to explore collaboration in high-potential digital industries.
This pivot reflects a strategic shift in how both Dubai and China are approaching international partnerships, prioritizing innovation-driven ecosystems over conventional trade flows.
“Dubai and China share a dynamic economic partnership with significant scope to expand trade and investment ties, deepen collaboration, and drive mutual growth,” said Lootah.
He added, “We are committed to further strengthening cooperation between the business communities in both markets, supporting two-way investment flows, and exploring new opportunities across priority sectors.”
Dubai Emerges as a Key Hub for Chinese Expansion
The renewed focus comes as Chinese companies increasingly choose Dubai for their international operations. In 2023, 1,583 new Chinese companies registered with the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, marking a 7% increase from the previous year. This influx has positioned China as the seventh-largest source of new foreign businesses setting up in the emirate.
This trend highlights Dubai’s growing appeal as a strategic base for companies looking to access markets across the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.
For Dubai Chambers, the mission is to position the emirate not merely as a trade hub, but as a critical launchpad for global expansion. The organization is actively connecting international companies to regional opportunities while advancing Dubai’s own digital economy goals and reinforcing its status as a competitive global business center.
