Capital University in Egypt has launched its inaugural “The Capital Innovates” exhibition, an event designed to bridge the gap between academic research and industry by showcasing student-led projects and incubated startups. The initiative, inaugurated by the university’s president, Dr. Al-Sayed Qandil, aims to build a comprehensive support system for turning innovative ideas into market-ready companies, aligning with Egypt’s broader goals for a knowledge-based economy.

From Idea to Incubation: Building a Startup Pipeline

The exhibition is structured to guide visitors through the entire entrepreneurial journey, from initial concept to a viable project. Dr. Al-Sayed Qandil emphasized that innovation and entrepreneurship are top priorities for Capital University, highlighting its integrated system that supports students from idea discovery and technical development to incubation and market entry.

The event, which aligns with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s vision, features a dedicated area for pre-incubation ideas, targeting promising concepts for future development. It also includes the university’s technology incubators and an Entrepreneurship Club zone, which displays training programs designed to cultivate an innovative mindset among students.

Spotlight on Student Innovation

The exhibition presented a diverse range of projects, demonstrating the practical application of academic knowledge. The engineering wing featured a multi-purpose smart boat that operates remotely using AI, computer vision, and gesture recognition for maritime rescue and environmental monitoring.

Students from the media and design program introduced several projects:

  • “IN: A Journey to Presence”: An interactive visual project using print, models, and digital platforms to promote self-awareness.
  • “NAGADA”: A campaign focused on preserving the traditional weaving craft of Nagada city through a new visual identity and awareness initiatives.
  • “Glow”: A media campaign designed to raise awareness about mental health and reduce stigma through a distinct visual identity.

Fostering a University-Wide Ecosystem

The exhibition underscores the university’s strategy of integrating creativity with practical application across all disciplines. The Computing and Artificial Intelligence section served as a central point, displaying digital solutions and smart applications for various sectors.

In total, the event hosts 25 startups currently supported by Capital University’s incubator. By providing a platform for students, researchers, and early-stage companies, the university aims to solidify its position as a hub for innovation and sustainable development, directly contributing to the goals of Egypt’s Vision 2030.
