  • Initiative: Graduation project by journalism students
  • Focus: Documenting origin stories across multiple sectors

A New Platform for MENA’s Origin Stories

The core idea behind “El Hekaya” is to explore the concept of “beginnings” from various angles. While it covers the startup and entrepreneurship ecosystem, its scope extends to personal, professional, and cultural experiences that act as catalysts for change and growth.

The student team produced content across diverse fields including technology, entrepreneurship, culture, politics, sports, and tourism. The project utilizes narrative storytelling to present different case studies and models of success, tracing journeys from simple ideas or significant challenges to impactful outcomes.

Cross-Department Collaboration Drives Development

In a practical display of interdisciplinary cooperation, fourth-year students from the university’s Information Science department volunteered to design and develop the project’s website. This collaboration fulfilled a course requirement for the tech students while providing the journalism team with a functional digital platform for their content.

The project was evaluated by a committee of prominent media figures, including Dr. Siham Nassar, former head of the Media Department; Mahmoud Saad El-Din, Editor-in-Chief of “Besaraha”; and Sami Abdel-Radi, Editor-in-Chief of “Telegraph Egypt,” lending industry credibility to the student-led initiative.
