Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals has initiated the development of an integrated digital supply chain platform for its energy sector, a move set to modernize an industry managing annual supply contracts valued at over $10.4 billion (RO 4 billion). The new system is designed to streamline procurement processes, improve contract management, and increase spending efficiency.
Quick Facts
- Manages over $10.4 billion in annual contracts
- Oversees more than 6,000 industry suppliers
- Issues over 600 tenders annually
Digitizing a Multi-Billion Dollar Operation
The project was announced during its first meeting, chaired by Undersecretary Mohsen Hamad Al Hadrami. The initial phase will be managed by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), with plans to later expand its adoption to other energy companies and government bodies.
The platform aims to bring a new level of efficiency to the sector’s complex operations. By integrating artificial intelligence and advanced analytics, the ministry expects to improve transparency, governance, and risk management while enabling more data-driven decision-making throughout the supply chain.
Boosting Local Content and Governance
A key objective of the initiative is to strengthen the monitoring of local content within the energy sector’s vast network of contracts. The digital system will create new opportunities for Omani businesses by providing a more accessible and transparent procurement environment.
Furthermore, the platform is expected to serve as the foundation for a national digital marketplace. This marketplace will connect suppliers, contractors, and operators across the entire energy industry, simplifying engagement and fostering greater collaboration.
Aligning with Oman Vision 2040
This digital transformation project is a strategic component of Oman Vision 2040. By enhancing the competitiveness of its vital energy industry, the initiative directly supports the country’s long-term goals for economic diversification and sustainable development. The platform is seen as a critical step in accelerating the digitalization of key economic sectors.
