Ericsson and Hack for Earth have launched the Ericsson Sustainability Challenge, a hackathon inviting youth, startups, university students and innovators from the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain to develop technology-driven sustainability solutions.

Registration opened on August 17 for participants aged 18 and above. The challenge will focus on how artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things and next-generation connectivity can support climate action, sustainable digital transformation and more resilient communities.

Participants will follow Hack for Earth’s Dream–Hack–Build methodology, moving from identifying sustainability challenges to developing solutions and preparing them for real-world deployment. The initiative is aligned with regional sustainability ambitions, including the UAE Vision 2031 and Green Agenda, according to the announcement.

Winning teams will join Build for Earth, Hack for Earth’s six-month acceleration programme. They will receive support from mentors, industry experts and Ericsson’s ecosystem to develop their ideas into scalable solutions. Winners will also have the opportunity to showcase their projects at Ericsson’s booth at GITEX GLOBAL.

The initiative combines Ericsson’s connectivity and technology expertise with Hack for Earth’s innovation model to support young innovators working on sustainability challenges across the Gulf.
