Saudi Arabia has transferred 25% stakes in Al-Ittihad, Al-Ahli, Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr to the Public Investment Fund (PIF) as part of its effort to privatise the domestic sports sector.
The sports ministry said the shares, previously held by non-profit foundations, were transferred after the required regulatory procedures were completed. The foundations’ boards will be dissolved, according to the announcement.
No financial details were disclosed.
The move marks the second phase of Saudi Arabia’s ownership transfer process and is intended to improve the clubs’ investment appeal under the Sports Clubs Investment and Privatisation Project.
Launched in 2024, the initiative has seen several Saudi clubs move toward ownership structures backed by sovereign wealth funds or private investors. The programme supports the country’s Vision 2030 strategy to diversify the economy through sectors including sport and entertainment.
In April, PIF agreed to sell a 70% stake in Al-Hilal to Kingdom Holding Company for SAR840 million ($224 million), according to the source.
