The number of Omani companies operating in artificial intelligence reached 42 by the end of August 2026, up from 22 a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT).
Tawah bint Abdullah Al Dawood, head of MTCIT’s Development and Studies Section, said the increase reflects the growth of Oman’s specialised technology ecosystem. Quoted by Oman News Agency, she said local AI startups are increasingly moving from prototypes to commercially viable products used by government and private-sector organisations.
These companies are developing tools to improve business efficiency, enhance services, automate processes and support data-driven decision-making, according to the announcement.
The expansion aligns with Oman’s ambition to build an innovation- and knowledge-based digital economy under Oman Vision 2040. MTCIT also said AI startups are helping develop national capabilities in AI, data and software, while creating advanced technical career opportunities.
The ministry is working to improve data and indicators for the AI sector to support more accurate tracking of investment and growth.
